Dam Liners

WATER STORAGE

Reservoirs for water storage are often lined to avoid losses through porous soil. But even in some clayey soils, considerable seepage can occur. 

DDT Liners have lined many concrete Reservoirs too – especially where potable water supplies need to be protected.

AQUACULTURE LINERS

Fish and prawn farmers often choose to line their ponds, etc., because:

• Their soil is porous and water is precious

• Disease control/hygiene can be easier with lined ponds

• Bank erosion/turbidity can be controlled more easily (ie. cleaner water)

      [Sometimes only the pond walls are lined]

Liners without plasticisers (that may be toxic to fish/prawns) must be chosen. 

HDPE from a reputable manufacturer is “food grade”, and has good UV resistance – so it is the most popular choice for aquaculture pond lining.

AGRICULTURAL LINERS (see Water Storage above)

Liners prefabricated from Canvacon (coated/woven PE) or from Enviroliner are sometimes chosen for on-farm dam liners. (although thicker HDPE is often preferred.)

 Sometimes the motivation for choosing Canvacon or Enviroliner (both of which can be factory-fabricated into quite large sheets then safely folded and rolled for transport) is to reduce the costs associated with sending a full Installation team long distances.

If no specialised on-site joining is needed, many farmers are willing to install these liners on a D.I.Y. basis. 

Choosing the site for a farm dam is more flexible if it is to be lined – as the owner doesn’t have to find a location with good holding clays.
